Living near The Mount for years, I only discovered its magic during lockdown and later through daily dog walks. Joining the volunteer group opened my eyes to rare orchids, butterflies, wildlife tracks and tiny plants I’d never noticed before. From spotting Small Blues to helping clear scrub, getting involved has made this familiar hillside feel extraordinary - a place full of life, waiting to be seen.

Last Sunday’s Apple Pressing at Rosamund Community Garden was our biggest yet! 🌞 With record crowds, homemade soups and cakes selling out, Mary Makes Jam raising funds for charity, and children’s nature fun from Earthlings, the day was full of energy. Our amazing DofE students kept the presses busy all afternoon. Early signs suggest we’ve doubled last year’s takings, helping fund future garden projects. 🍏

We’re looking for a compassionate, organised Project Coordinator to lead Zero Carbon Guildford’s flagship Community Fridge. Since 2021, the fridge has welcomed 13,000 visits a year, saving 29 tonnes of food and 73 tonnes of CO₂. This hands-on role is perfect for a people-person who thrives on building community, tackling food waste, and keeping projects running smoothly. This September, Zero Carbon Guildford will become a hub for creativity, community, and circular fashion. From free clothes swaps and mending circles to natural dyeing workshops and garden tours, we’ll explore how fashion can be reimagined through care for both people and planet. We’re thrilled to announce that Guildford Library has been selected as one of just three libraries in the UK to become a Green Library Hub, thanks to a groundbreaking new programme led by CILIP (the UK’s library and information association) and backed by a £1.2 million grant from The National Lottery Community Fund’s Climate Action Fund.

On Friday 26th April, ZERO Carbon Guildford hosted a vibrant day of community activity, bringing together local residents, volunteers, and organisations for three impactful events - the Water Quality Blitz, the Surrey Hills Baby Clothes Library’s Community Baby Shower, and the Explore and Restore cycle trail. We were especially pleased to welcome Guildford’s MP, Zöe Franklin, who joined us in support of these fantastic local initiatives.
