About Guildford
Environmental Forum

Guildford Environmental Forum (GEF) was set up in Guildford 35 years ago, in collaboration with Guildford Borough Council and later linking with the Transition Towns movement.

Guildford Environmental Forum is a community led group with an aim to encourage and help Guildford’s Leaders, Residents and Community to live and work sustainably within our share of our planet’s resources for the benefit and wellbeing of people and our environment in present and future generations.

GEF works to achieve this aim in the following ways:

  • Cherish – Working to protect and improve our natural environment

  • Engage – Engaging our local leaders and influencers to help them drive change

  • Inform & inspire – Raising awareness of the issues and inspiring each individual to play their part

In practice this has meant delivering a regular newsletter within depth topic based articles as well as local and national environmental updates, organising educational events, sitting on local council bodies as a voice for the environment; lobbying in relation to specific environmental concerns, and running hands-on local projects to address conservation priorities and climate change. Our work involves coordination and collaboration with numerous other local environmental and residents groups.

"I’m delighted that the GEF members have confirmed their support for GEF and Zero to formalise the existing collaboration by merging the two organisations. Guildford’s environment needs a stronger, louder voice to protect and enhance it against the impacts of human activity while also addressing the broader climate and biodiversity crisis. This new combined organisation can provide a louder and stronger voice."

Alistair, Chair of GEF
