How the library works

Families can borrow boxes of good-quality, pre-loved baby and toddler clothes by age, for a £20 refundable deposit (which you’re welcome to leave as a donation). Boxes are available in age ranges from newborn to 2 years, with seasonal items such as coats, shoes, swimwear and sleepwear included where possible.

Once a box is reserved, we arrange a convenient collection time, with delivery available in some circumstances for those with access or mobility needs.

Why it matters

Baby clothes are often worn for only a short time before being outgrown, meaning many items are barely used before being passed on or thrown away. This creates unnecessary waste and cost for families, while adding to the environmental impact of clothing production.

By sharing clothes instead of buying new, the library helps reduce clothes waste, cut emissions and support a local circular economy, while also making early parenthood more affordable.

The project currently supports over 150 local families, strengthening community connection and helping to make reuse the norm.

Volunteer with us

Volunteers are at the heart of the baby clothes library. The more volunteers we have, the more families we can support.

There are lots of ways to get involved, including sorting donated clothes, making up age-specific boxes, checking stock for quality and completeness, and helping keep the library organised and running smoothly. You can also support the growth of the project by working alongside our Project Lead to help develop and expand the library.

Whether you can help regularly or just occasionally, your time makes a real difference to local families and to reducing clothes waste.
