ZERO Hosts Local Action Day with Zöe Franklin MP

On Friday 26th April, ZERO Carbon Guildford hosted a vibrant day of community activity, bringing together local residents, volunteers, and organisations for three impactful events - the Water Quality Blitz, the Surrey Hills Baby Clothes Library’s Community Baby Shower, and the Explore and Restore cycle trail. We were especially pleased to welcome Guildford’s MP, Zöe Franklin, who joined us in support of these fantastic local initiatives.

The day began with the Water Quality Blitz, where residents took part in hands-on river testing to help monitor pollution in local waterways. The data collected contributes to national efforts to better understand and protect our rivers - a great example of local people powering real environmental change. At the same time, the Surrey Hills Community Baby Shower offered a warm and welcoming space for families to come together, and help sort baby clothes donations, and learn more about the Surrey Hills Baby Clothes Library, which is helping parents reduce waste and costs through sustainable clothing options.

Meanwhile, the Explore and Restore cycle trail gave participants the chance to discover Guildford’s beautiful green spaces while reflecting on how we can care for and reconnect with the natural world.

Zöe Franklin MP spent the day engaging with community members, exploring the events, and hearing first-hand about the work being done at ZERO. Her presence was a welcome show of support for grassroots climate action and community wellbeing.

We’re so grateful to everyone who attended, volunteered, or helped organise the day. Seeing so many people come together in support of local initiatives was both inspiring and encouraging.
