About the Event
Zero Carbon Guildford presents the second seminar and discussion from our “Green Your Home Zone”. Gordon Farquharson, who presented the RouteMap to net-Zero in January, returns to address an issue of the moment: “Ways to improve the efficiency of your existing gas boiler heating system”.
Most of us are unlikely to be diving into heat pump or other technology instantly and will need to burn gas for a while. While doing so we have a responsibility to use as little as possible, hopefully reducing CO2 and cost (timely in the light of escalating fuel costs).
The presentation will review boiler technology currently in use, look at heating system configuration and identify measures to take to ensure optimum efficiency. Some will be DIY, some should be part of the routine service and others technical improvements to the use and operation of your heating.
The session will cover the following matters:
- Safety matters
- Understanding units of measurement in your bills
- Understand your existing heating system
- Boiler type
- Boiler output and heat demand
- Heating system design and functionality
- Domestic Hot Hater (DHW)
- Controls
- Potential energy saving improvements
- Insulating pipework
- Ideal temperature settings:
- Maintenance & System care: The usual ++++ Venting, fouling
- Radiator care
- Controls – sensor location, TRVs, zoning (manual/ auto), settings, timing
- Monitoring performance
Attendees should come away with ideas and a checklist of things to consider.
You can attend this event in-person at ZERO, or online via Zoom. A link will be sent via email the day before the event.
