Didn't know Guildford had a Library of Things? Well this is your chance to find out more! A 'Library Of Things' is a place where you can borrow gardening equipment, tools, camping gear, and lots more. Guildford Library of Things will be running a stall outside the library (North Street) so that you can stop by for a chat, check out their inventory, and discover how you can take advantage of this free service.
Guildford Library has been slowly building a collection of items in its library of things (LoT), providing an excellent resource for both cutting consumerism in the borough, as well as providing items free of charge to residents who may not be able to purchase it themselves.
As an example, the average drill gets only 13 minutes of use in its entire lifetime! If you were to look around your house how many things would you find that you bought, used once, and then put on a shelf to collect dust? Probably a fair few. So LoTs can help to cut manufacturing emissions, cut waste going to landfill, and seal up that leaky hole in your wallet by stopping you wasting money on things you'll rarely use.
An LoT is an example of a community share scheme, and this type of initiative is crucial when we think about how we can take steps to hit carbon neutrality in the borough, as well as helping us to begin driving the behavioural change we all need to undertake to address our relationship with needless consumerism.
