About the Event
Climate change will affect us all, and whilst many council's climate action focus remains on their urban areas, there is plenty that can be done at a hyper local level. Guildford's geography means that many of us live out in the villages on the outskirts of our beautiful borough. This can raise an entirely different set of challenges, which can play an important role in tackling the climate crisis. Â Â
Infrequent public transport, loss of local ecosystems, and flooding are all issues for residents in the outskirts of our beautiful borough, and whilst parish councils may not have the power or funding to counter these issues alone, there is lots that we can do by working together, as communities, and by using convening and lobbying power to ensure that we play as an important role in protecting our planet's future as those in urban areas. Â Â
Join us for a discussion on taking action on your doorstep, to hear from local groups and parishes who have begun taking climate action in their own backyards, including groups from the Horsleys, Albury, Effingham and Ripley, and to discuss how our parishes can start countering the climate crisis locally, as well as way that parishes can team up to be more effective. Â
**Please note that whilst we would love to have you join us in person at ZERO, we are a charity focused on mitigating and adapting to climate change, and as such would discourage you from making the trip by personal diesel or petrol car if you are travelling solely for the purpose of attending the discussion. You can join us online to save the emissions, by using the link provided, but please do pop in and chat with us anytime you happen to be in Guildford.
